Stephen is a Partner and Head of our Commercial Litigation Team. Stephen joined the firm in 2008, and has specialised in Litigation and employment law since February 2009, having completed a Graduate Diploma in Law and obtaining a distinction in his LPC from Nottingham Law School. He qualified in 2010 having completed his two year Training Contract with Enoch Evans LLP and became a Partner in October 2012.
Stephen specialises in all area of contentious work, including:
Commercial contract disputes
Commercial property disputes including contested lease renewals
Dilapidation claims and other claims for breach of covenant
Professional negligence actions
Intellectual property disputes
Claims arising out of the sale and purchase of all types of businesses
Partnership and shareholder disputes
He advises a broad range of private and commercial clients on all aspects of employment law, including:
Contractual disputes
Dismissals
Discrimination and whistleblowing
Handling complex employment Tribunal cases
In addition to the contentious work set out above, he also advises in relation to:
Non-contentious and Human Resource issues
Strategic advice on redundancy and restructuring exercises; and
The TUPE implications of corporate transactions
Recent Experience/notable work:
Defending a company against a multi-million pound claim brought in negligence that settled in mediation.
Bringing claims on behalf of a PLC for breaches of contract.
Defending a substantial claim from a commercial landlord for dilapidation at the expiry of a lease.
Defending a company in complex employment tribunal litigation concerning allegations of unfair dismissal, sex and disability discrimination.
Defending an organisation against a claim for constructive unfair dismissal.
Bringing a claim on behalf of an employee against a large corporation in respect of unfair dismissal, disability discrimination and victimisation.
Bringing a claim on behalf of an employee against a local authority in respect of unfair dismissal, disability discrimination, whistleblowing and victimisation.
Associations/memberships:
Stephen qualified as an accredited Higher Court Solicitor – Advocate in February 2011, is a member of the Birmingham Law Society and is on the Committee of the Walsall Law Association.
Hobbies & interests:
Stephen is a Scout Leader, helps to run a local voluntary swimming and lifesaving club and is a keen Aston Villa fan. He is a National Pool Lifeguard Trainer/Assessor and also a Swimming Teacher.
